K Street Kate – Four and Flourishing!

by Hiba Hakki 3. September 2010 07:44

Fans and friends of K Street Kate braved mid-August-in-DC mugginess and jammed into Dr. Ayman Hakki’s new cosmetics spa - Luxxery Express – to commemorate the online magazine’s 4th Anniversary. At the helm of it all? Kate Michael – arbiter of all things DC and one of the best hostesses in town! And those that came to get their drink on weren’t let down in the least!

After raising many glasses to Kate and her crew at Luxxery the masses migrated to Mighty Pint for the official after party.

 http://www.kstreetkate.net/2010/08/four-fabulous-and-on-to-year-five.html

K Street Kate celebrated four years in Luxxery Tuesday night.  An intimate gathering of friends and supporters came together at Dr. Ayman Hakki's newest "Med-Spa" location to toast four year's of our online magazine's coverage of local trendsetters and tastemakers.  The venue, just as our content, was overflowing with the best this city has to offer!

Fresh off the boat, literally, from France's champagne region, CPC Cellars brought their select Bordeaux wine, Brut and Rose champagnes to sip and share.  Thanks to CPC Owner  Patrick Callieri, K Street Kate had the exclusive opportunity to introduce these new products to the East Coast - and we were happy to raise our glasses all night!

And then there was the vodka bar, specially sponsored by the ab fab Absolut Vodka (including the new Absolut Berry Acai). No one could get enough of their K Street Kate signature drinks... paired with traditional mixers as well as some of the newest VitaminWaterZero flavors (we love you - and thank you for your support - SmartWater/VitaminWater/Glaceau!).

We have to thank our incredible co-hosts, Dr. Ayman Hakki, Leslie Sanchez and Reese Gardner (who orchestrated our TOTally awesome afterparty at his Mighty Pint venue) for making the night one to remember.

We're four, fabulous... and on to year five!

What is Botox

by Hiba Hakki 9. July 2010 09:40

Hi Everyone. With our grand opening of our new location in Washington D.C., many people have been asking me about Botox. Here is some great information taken from our site: www.Luxxery.com

Next time I will talk about Juvederm. And don't forget to stop by our Washington D.C. office to say hi and get even more information about our great services.

Here is our latest promotion!

What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable product that contains the biological compound, botulinum toxin. When injected, the toxin temporarily disables the targeted muscle; thus, the wrinkling generated from its contraction is eliminated. The most common areas of injection are the forehead, brow and outer eyes and around the neck (also known as turkey neck). Extra injections around the lips can also be of benefit.

Botox Cosmetic has become a leading and popular cosmetic procedure and has received much publicity for its success. The reasons for its immense popularity are numerous. The procedure is easy to perform with little or no downtime. The procedure is effective, cost efficient and almost painless while the risks are minimal. However, Botox® Cosmetic should not be considered without any risk at all.

Botox Cosmetic is a neuromuscular toxin that inhibits the release of acetylcholine within the nerves. These nerves are located within the muscles that are injected. Without the release of acetylcholine, muscles become inactive.

Recovery

The affects of Botox® last anywhere between three to five months. One will notice a difference in wrinkle reduction two to three days after injection. Almost all patients are extremely happy with their results and often return for repeated injections or to request a permanent surgical solution.

Important Things To Remember About Botox

The advantages of Botox can dramatically improve all wrinkles that are caused by overactive muscles. Men and women alike over the age of 30 can benefit from Botox. Botox helps with wrinkles that are caused by over-active muscles, however static wrinkles or very fine wrinkles are not removed by Botox® Cosmetic. These wrinkles are caused by changes within the skin itself or are due to the aging changes of the skin and underlying fat. Correcting fine wrinkles requires a thorough evaluation with a Luxxery skin professional to determine the exact cause and to diagnose the most effective treatment. Various treatments and services for fine/superficial wrinkles at Luxxery include a chemical peel procedure, laser skin resurfacing, a face lift, fat or collagen Injections, or a brow lift.

Summary of the Advantages of Botox Cosmetic

  • Effective in reducing or eliminating dynamic wrinkles
  • Great for crow's feet, laugh lines and forehead wrinkles
  • Relatively painless
  • No anesthesia necessary
  • No downtime
  • Relatively low-cost
  • Minimal risk
  • Temporary
  • Quick

You Don't Need to Lose Weight before Lipo.

by Hiba Hakki 19. April 2010 15:34

Patients frequently ask if it is better to lose weightbefore having liposuction. The answer to this question is directly linked towhether or not a patient is an appropriate candidate for liposuction. In thepast, patients who did not fall within 10-15% of their ideal body weight wereturned away from the procedure and instructed to lose the weight first.  This is no longer the case when curvesare back in style  and being a fewpounds away from your ideal body weight is in. Liposculpture, the newest trendin liposuction, allows for the coupling of liposuction with lipotransfer.

You are a candidate for liposculpture if you have pockets ofexcess fat in particular areas, even if you do not fall within 10-15% of yourideal weight.  Keep in mind thatliposuction is not a substitute for weight reduction; it is a method ofremoving localized fat. Liposuction is a technique to remove unwanted fat deposits from specificareas of the body including the chin, neck and cheeks, the upper arms and abovethe breasts, the abdomen, buttocks, hips and thighs and the knees, calves andankles.  It essentially eliminatesthe bulges and brings the areas that are “liposuctioned” into a balance withthe untreated surrounding areas. Lipotransfer on the other hand is a techniquethat allows your surgeon to enhance areas that need enhancement by injectingthe liposuctioned fat into fat deficient areas.  With lipo-sculpture, you may want to lose the weight at somepoint yet it does not matter whether you do it before or after thesurgery.  You should be physicallyhealthy and psychologically stable and have firm elastic skin which will resultin a better final contour. Since lipotransfer in simple terms means taking thefat from areas you don’t need it to be in and delivering it to where you do(your face or your buttocks), you don’t need to be your ideal weight to be acandidate for lipo-scultupre. Lipo-transfer is a way to enhance areas that needenhancement, combining it with liposuction is true lipo-sculpture. Lipo-sculptureis completing liposuction which is essentially a sculpture procedure at apatient’s ideal body weight.

In the hands of a plastic surgeon with artistic skills and adequatelytrained in body contouring, your trouble areas will not only disappear, theycan be useful in adding to your appeal with an improvement in contour that willpersist for some time even if you lose or gain a few pounds later . Actually patients who gain a few pounds(emphasis on few) will have apersistent improvement in the contouring effect of the procedure because thenew pounds will end up getting evenly distributed in your body instead of goingback to the old bulges.

A board certified plastic surgeon performing liposculpturecan turn patients who are more than10-15% of their ideal body weight intoappropriate candidates for liposculpture. Although liposculpturecan enhance your appearance and your self-confidence regardless of your weight,it will not necessarily change your looks to match your ideal, or cause otherpeople to treat you differently. Before you decide to have surgery, thinkcarefully about your expectations and discuss them with your surgeon.

Look at today's celebrity bodies, and you'll notice thatParis Hilton’s model thin body can no longer compete with Kim Kardashian’scurves.  With liposculpture, yourphysician can shift those pounds to where they can enhance instead of detractfrom your shape. Theconcept is simple, skinny is out and curves are in. Coupling liposuction withlipotransfer is liposculpture. A new way you can look good this summer nomatter how much you weigh.

2010 is all about shape.

Doctors Say More Politicians Turning to Plastic Surgery

by Dr. Ayman Hakki 4. January 2010 06:35

http://cosmeticsurgerytoday.wordpress.com/2009/12/25/doctors-say-more-politicians-turning-to-plastic-surgery/

http://www.harleymedical.co.uk/media/2009/12/17/are-american-politicians-cosmetic-surgery-fans/#more-920

While plastic surgery procedures and cosmetic enhancements are generally expected for celebrities and those in the media spotlight, some doctors are finding that more politicians are saying “yes” to going under the knife.

According to Dr. Ayman Hakki of the Luxxery Cosmetic Medical Boutique in Waldorf, Maryland, it’s interesting to note that a number of politicians have already had some type of cosmetic enhancement in order to preserve their youthful looks.

Dr. Hakki points out that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has had Botox injections in her forehead, Vice President Joe Biden has had hair transplants, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has had a partial facelift, and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has had both a neck lift and a face lift. (Source:  ThePlasticSurgeryChannel.com)

Experts say that election time is “peak season” for many plastic surgery procedures, but there is still a lot of stigma around the idea that certain politicians may come across as vain instead of coming across as friendly, youthful and healthy.  In these cases, politicians do their best to hide it.

According to board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Cap Lesesne, “patients who were politicians and who had cosmetic procedures every six months instead of all at once [would] avoid arousing any suspicion.” (Source: ABoardCertifiedPlasticSurgeon.com) Still, others believe that it would be better for politicians to just admit that they are having plastic surgery.

Cosmetic procedures continue to be an attractive option for individuals that want to maintain a healthy and youthful appearance, combat the signs of aging or improve their silhouette after weight loss. Some of today’s most in-demand procedures include breast augmentation, facelift surgery, rhinoplasty (nose job surgery) and liposuction. Minimally invasive procedures that continue to be on the top list of coveted procedures in the United States include Botox injections, injectable fillers, laser skin resurfacing and cellulite treatments.

Modern Luxxery

by Dr. Ayman Hakki 4. January 2010 06:24

http://www.glittarazzi.com/blog/2009/12/10/modern-luxxery/#more-4059

Plastic surgeon Dr. Ayman Hakki recently celebrated the launch of his cosmetic medical boutique, Luxxery, with friends and VIPs at a benefit for Zonta International.

Jazz musician Marcus Johnson was on-hand performing hits from his new album, Poetically Justified; celebrity hairstylist David Palmer coiffed the hair of guests as they enjoyed wine from Tarara Winery; and photographer Nakeva Corothers took lots of great pics (check them out, after the jump).

Also, at the event, Dr. Hakki announced the opening of Luxxery’s second location in downtown Washington, D.C., in 2010. (We can’t wait!)

The Art of Fillers

by Dr. Ayman Hakki 8. November 2009 18:18
All fillers are either temporary (Restylane Juvederm are Hyaluronic acid based), semi temporary (Radiesse), or permanent (Fat, Artecoll and Dermalive). All these fillers (with the exception of fat); from the most absorbable (Collagene) to the least absorbable (Gortex) fall into the category of allo-dermic (not of one’s body) fills, and all carry side effects, see first reference bellow.

They are becoming popular because they are relatively simple to use, and the injection is easy to recovery from. Face lifts, peels, lasers and even fat-fills cost more, require higher expertise, and a longer recovery period. My solution is Face Accentuation and by using this sequential method I enhance each individual’s underlying facial youth by; first using injectable fillers, then a selective-mid-facial-filling with permanent fillers (like fat), then doing a surrounding-facial-thinning, and using skin tightening only when necessary.

Suction-lipectomy was invented by Teimourian in 1975. He later in 1985 started to inject the fatty product of suction into the face. Obagi pioneered the use of peels to tighten and rejuvenate skin. Coleman refined fat-filling and trademarked it as Lipostructure. Little invented a method of permanent central facial augmentation that requires extremely skilled surgical manipulation. He then coupled it with an Omega lift and coined it “Facial Sculpture”. Bitar in 2002 used many artificial types of filler (see references).

My approach borrows from these and other cosmetic advancements, but it differs from them all in that it makes the case for central augmentation and peripheral reduction, only using lifting when the first two methods (with or without peels) are insufficient to achieve desired skin tightening. This sequential, simple and quick procedure achieves the desired accentuation; bringing out-naturally-the features we used to love in our face.

To understand this new all embracing procedure one must realize the outcome of each individual procedure. Lifting makes the face look gaunt, suctioning makes the face look empty, and filling makes the face look puffy. Face Accentuation, on the other hand, simultaneously fills the center of the face, reduces its perimeters, and trims the excess skin if peeling is insufficient to do so. It is a totally new way to enhance, not detract from, the beauty of our face. Lifts (as a primary rejuvenation technique) is becoming unpopular and my Accentuation restores youthfulness without relying solely on artificial substances.

My method differs from others in that it is both natural, costs less, and is eventually permanent. Standard cosmetic interventions often give rise to a “plastic” look. Replacing short-lived treatments, permanent foreign substances, and the more radical surgical procedures, Face Accentuation combines modalities in a set-sequence that delivers a rejuvenation that is both natural and long-lasting.

Acne Scarring Management: How We Do It

by Dr. Ayman Hakki 31. August 2009 09:55

The key to management of patients with acne scarring begins with a thorough analysis and a clinical examination with an emphasis on determining the cause of scarring, preventing scarring, and the types of scars. Once all these factors have been determined, we can design the options for treatment of the scars.

A scar, in the simplest terms, forms at the site of injured tissue. In the case of acne, the injury is due to the body’s inflammatory reaction to sebum, the oily substance produced by sebaceous glands as well as bacteria and dead cells in the clogged sebaceous follicles. The type of scarring that results in people who are susceptible to scarring ranges from depressed scars such as ice-pick scars, to raised scars such as keloids, to hyperpigmented scars and dark spots. Facial scars resulting from acne regardless of how they manifest themselves often give the illusion of facial asymmetry or poor skin texture. My goal in the treatment of facial acne scarring is managing by way of removal or lightening of such unsightly areas for my patients regardless of skin color or ethnicity. My objective is to give the skin a more acceptable physical appearance with the understanding that total restoration of the skin to the way it looked before the occurrence of acne is not possible. Our treatment approach will accomplish a tremendous improvement of the appearance of the skin.

Old and new methods in treatment of acne scarring are only effective when taking into consideration the patient’s skin type and ethnic background. Knowing the patient’s susceptibility is important in the choice of techniques for management and effective treatment of acne scars. A variety of treatments are presented to the patient ranging from old methods such as the age old hydroquinones and peels to new methods such as laser treatments and fat transfer or adipose accentuation of the sub-dermis. Our approach consists of a combination of old and new techniques integrating medical strength product regimens, peels, microdermabrasions, laser treatments as well as stem cell laden fat transfer.

The scar treatments currently availableinclude:

Peels Only deep peels such as phenol based peels work on acne scarring yet are not recommended for dark or asian skin types. Worth mentioning is the new Vi-Peel™, a medical grade peel specifically designed for darker skin types and works on all skin types, it offers significant improvement to dark spots, hyperpigmentation and acne scarring in African American, Latin and Asian patients.

Microdermabrasions A surface form of dermabrasion, microdermabrasion using crystals or crystal free passing through a vacuum tube to remove surface skin requires multiple treatments and may not have an impact on improving acne scarring. However, a microdermabrasion performed immediately prior to a Nd-Yag laser treatment such as the Cutera Genesis, contributes to a better laser procedure. A combination microdermabrasion-complexion blending laser treatment can help significantly to improve scars.

Laser Treatments Laser and light based treatments for acne scarring and hyperpigmentation have increasingly become the appropriate approach where other methods have failed or as an integral part of a combination treatment plan that combines traditional methods such as topicals, peel and systemic approaches. For example the results with the Nd-Yag Cutera Laser Genesis treatments preceded by a microdermabrasion produce an excellent result for patients with hyperpigmentation and old acne scarring. The treatment results in smoothing out skin texture and reducing visible scars and blemishes. Scar tissue can be recontoured and redness around healed scars and acne lesions can be reduced depending on the type of wavelength and intensity of the laser used.

Fat Transfer When used to correct deep contour ice-pick scars resulting from cystic acne, fat transfer where fat is taken from another body site and prepared for injection into one’s own skin can elevate depressed scars with the longest lasting results than all other methods. Recent studies have proved that the newly injected fat contributes to the healing of the surrounding tissue where it is placed due the high number of stem cells in the transferred fat. The stem cells are involved in the repair of the skin and a remarkable repair of scars as well as an enhancement of the quality of the skin underlying the transferred fat. Multiple fat transfer procedures can achieve more of a permanent result.

Products Patients seeking treatments of acne scars should also commit to a customized home care regimen that combine cleansers instead of traditional soap which can strip the skin of its natural oils, with topical retinoids (Retin-A) to reduce blackheads, whiteheads and induce skin cell turnover with the added benefit of reducing wrinkles, a skin lightening cream or hydroquinone to reduce or remove hyper pigmented scars, and has an increased bleaching quality when used in combination with the retinoid. No regimen is complete without a moisturizer and a sunblock or a combination moisturizer sunblock as the final step to any customized home care regimen. The decision to seek treatment for your acne scars depends on many factors, the most important one being the way you feel psychologically and emotionally about your scars and whether or not you are willing to live with your scars. Another important factor would be whether you have the budget and discipline to seek the treatment options presented since acne scar treatments is not covered by health insurance. Most physicians offer treatment package options and patient financing to ease the burden of the cost involved. The uniqueness of our approach is geared towards making our patients feel good not just look good. At Luxxery we take care of your acne scars and surround you in beauty.
